A new ‘Food First Guide for Carers’ has being distributed across North Norfolk, South Norfolk, West Norfolk and Norwich.
The guide looks to support carers and care workers in identifying and treating nutritional risk prior to the diagnosis of malnutrition and offers advice in managing the associated consequences. Additionally, the guide incorporates advice for those with dementia and the impact this can have on good nutrition and hydration.
Incorporated within the guide is the Bapen Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) and indicates best practice prior to seeking clinical intervention.
This document has been created with the support of patient groups, informal carers and multiple clinical specialists by North and South Norfolk CCG and may be used in its current form to support all carers and care workers.
