Selfcare is all about providing care for you by you, recognising the steps you can take to meet your health and wellbeing needs.
Within the NHS there are a vast array of qualified professionals who can provide advice and guidance on many ailments and providing treatments which you can purchase there and then for less than a prescription. For example, pharmacists are qualified to give advice on a range of things meaning you can get the advice you need quicker than waiting for a GP appointment and it is often more convenient allowing you more time to do the things you want to do.
The campaign is supported by the Selfcare Forum and a number of useful factsheets are available on their website whilst short term treatments for ailments such as muscle aches and pains, colds and flu and indigestion to name a few can all be purchased from a supermarket or pharmacy.
We all need to visit the GP at times and by practicing selfcare we can all ensure that GP appointments are available for when we really need them.
